Chapter 2
Dr. Shanker Adawal
House is a basic necessity of one’s life. One can live in a rented house, a hostel or a guest house but in the long run he or she feels the necessity of having his or her own house. Buying or acquiring a suitable plot of land and then constructing a house on it is a very difficult and complex problem. Many factors have to be considered before starting construction and the most important of all, is whether the house to be constructed will bring prosperity to the native and his coming generations. In this regard Astrology would be helpful to the native and could help the native to a greater extent.
Astrology and Vastu are supplementary to each other. If we see these two subjects with different angle then life would get puzzled. Therefore, to understand the concept of Vastu one should understand the importance and basics principles of astrology connected with Vastu.
Muhurta
As far as suitable Muhurta is concerned, beginning with digging of the foundation, separate Muhurta can be selected for different stages of construction like erecting of pillars and walls laying of roof and fixing of doors etc. but generally only one Muhurta to start digging of foundation is selected and the work is started with a religious ceremony knows as Bhoomi Poojan.
Muhurta for construction of House
1. Digging of Foundation:- The foundation of the house or structure to be raised on it is the first dug and after this the work of filling the foundation with cement and concrete is done. Before starting the work following points should be kept in mind:-
a. When the Sun is in Leo, Virgo or Libra digging of foundation should be started from “Agni Kona” or southeast. When Sun is in Scorpio, Sagittarius and Capricorn, digging is to be started from Ishan Kona or corner-North East. When Sun is in Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, digging operation should be started from Vayavya kona- North west and when Sun is transiting in Taurus, Gemini and Cancer, digging should start from Nairitya Kona or corner i.e. south west, this process is called Rahu Mukha or Shesha Naaga. This can be understood with the help of following diagram:-
When Sun is in signs Leo, Virgo and Libra the Rahu Mukha is in North East, it’s back is in North west and its tail is in south west. Therefore, the digging should be started from south east which is free from the effect of Rahu. This can be determined for different signs in accordance with Sun’s transit in a sign and Rahu-Mukha can be kept away in other directions.
Apart from the above considerations, it is also to be seen whether the earth is sleeping at the time of digging. The earth is believed to be in a dormant or sleeping stage on 5, 7, 9, 10, 21 and 24th day, from the date sun enters in the a new sign and also when moon’s Nakshatra is 5, 7, 9, 12, 19, and 26th from Sun’s nakshatra. Such days should be avoided while selecting the Muhurta nakshatras and tithis etc. For this Muhurta are given below:-
b. Nakshatra – For digging foundation all Adhomukh-downward looking nakshatras via moola, Ashlesha, Vishakha, Kritika, poorva Phalguni, poorvashadha, poorva Bhadrapad, bharni, magha, all constellations suitable for construction such as Utter Phalguni, uttarshada, uttarBhadrapada, Rohini which are fixed nakshatras all Mridu or friendly constellations i.e. Mrigshira Revati, Chitra, Anuradha and a few other Nakshatra like pushya Hasta Swati Dhanishtha ans Shatbhisha are conidedred good.
c. Tithis – Benefic tithis benefic yogas and ascendant of fixed signs should be preferred. According to some learned scholars lagnas of movable signs also are suitable.
2. Fixing of Pillars-Stambha Ropan:- This is a major stage in construction in modern times when the entire building structure is raised on pillars and beams. Therefore, this work should be started in Urdhavamukha Nakshatra or Upward looking constellations i.e. Ardra Pushya, uttar Phalguni, Uttarashda, Uttarbhadrapada, Sharvana, Rohini, Shatbhisha, Dhanishtha, and which are more appropriate for this work.
