Now, some general information about Lord Shiva, Lord Shiva has thousand names (rather more than that) and Rudra is another name of Lord Shiva. Few of the names are mentioned here: Pushkara, Maheshware, Shrikantha, Bhawana, Amrittapa, Lokakara, Parijata, Dhanurdhara, Jagadguru, Sidha, Satya, ananda, Mahavirya, Ishta and so on.

Hearing and reading of Shiva Purana makes one devotee of Lord Shiva. All sins are forgiven. Lord Shiva may himself appear in the mid of the native if Shiva Puran is recited repeatedly. Further, it is stated that if a person donates the Shiva Purana, specially along with gold and bull, the native may get to live in the Shivaloka.

It is stated in Brihat Samhita that putting an umbrella over tree should be worshipped with garlands, perfumes and clothes. An image of Lord Shiva should be placed under the tree and the hymn called Rudradhyaya chanted repeatedly and only six oblations made to the fire with the sacred expression 'Heil to Rudras'. Then the king should feed Brahmins with milk porridge, honey and clarified butter. In this way, the evil consequences can be warded off in the interest of public welfare.
