22. A retrograde planet gives combined results of both the houses, the one where it was placed before retrogression and the one into which it may move while in retrogression.

Therefore, the consideration of the transit results becomes important for attaining accuracy in timing the predictions and determining the true nature of planetary influence for perfect predictions. Due to the effects of the transiting planets following modifications in the results ay be observed:

a) Increase or decrease in the auspiciousness of the natal results.

b) Increase or decrease in the intensity and strength of the natal results.

c) Obstructions in experience of the favourable natal results.

It is customary to consider the transit results with reference to the natal Moon, but considering the transit results in reference to the Ascendant is also widely in practice. It has been found appropriate that the transit results with reference to the stronger of the two, namely the Moon and the Ascendant, is more appropriate.

Planets produce benefic result while transiting at certain fixed positions with respect to the natal Moon and these positions are termed as Shubha Sthanas. Their transit at all other places is not favourable or unfavourable.

Corresponding to each favourable positions, or the Shubha Sthanas, the planets also have the positions of obstruction known as the Vedha Sthanas, and these are also counted from the position of the natal Moon.

If any planet is transiting its Shubha Sthana and at the same time some other planet gets into transiting at its Vedha Sthana then its benefic results get obstructed. Sun and Saturn do not give any Vedha to each other, similarly the Moon and Mercury also do not give any Vedha to each other.

The Shubha Sthanas and the Ashubha Sthanas along with the Vedha Sthanas for the various planets with respect to the natal Moon are given in the following table:

Shubha Sthanas and the Vedha Sthanas of Sun:

When Sun is in the 3rd, 6th, 10th or 11th house from the Moon-sign, it gives auspicious results but when any planet gets placed in the 9th house and the Sun placed in the 3rd house then it causes Vedha to Sun and Sun does not give auspicious results. Sun in the 6th house has Vedha due to the planet which is placed in the 12th house. Similarly, planet I the 4th house causes Vedha to the Sun when it is placed in the 10th house and Sun in the 11th house has Vedha because if a planet is placed in the 5th house. Saturn does not cause Vedha to Sun and give auspicious results in the transit.

Shubha Sthanas and the Vedha Sthanas of Moon:

Moon is a auspicious planet and give beneficial results when placed in ascendant, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 10th or the 11th house. If any other planet except Mercury is placed in the 9th, 3rd, 12th, 4th or 8th house from Moon sign, then there is a Vedha to Moon. Mercury does not cause Vedha to Moon.

Shubha Sthanas and the Vedha Sthanas of Mars:

Although Mars is known as a malefic planet it gives auspicious results when placed in 3rd, 6th or the 11th house, in the birth chart. Any planet placed in the 12th, 9th or 5th house causes Vedha to Mars when placed in 3rd, 6th or 11th house respectively. Mars’s Vedha reduces auspiciousness of Mars.

Shubha Sthanas and the Vedha Sthanas of Mercury:

Placement of planet Mercury in the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th and 11th is very auspicious and native becomes a wise and intelligent person, due to this auspicious position of Mercury in birth-chart. Planets placed in 1st, 3rd, 5th, 8th, 9th or 12th house in birth-chart causes Vedha to Mercury. Moon is a friend of Mercury that’s why it does not cause Vedha to Mercury and the native gets auspicious results during its transit.
