Dr. Adawal (Jyotishaacharya, PHD, MBA)
Each country has its own peculiarities and quite a few events would have taken place by them. So many important events took placed in our country at one or the other period and they have had their implications. Lord Budha, Lord Mahavira, Lord Christ, Guru Nanak Devji, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Swami Dayanand Ji, Swami Vivekanand Ji and a number of personalities came into this world to spread the message of God and of fatuity. If we go into details of all that has happened from the time we began to collect information till now, it will be a stupendous task.
Politically, socially, morally and financially there have been many upheavals and certain good developments also. There were two world wars 1914-1918 and 1939-1945 which engulfed most of the countries of the would and our country, India , also had to suffer by way of loss of man power and money. Besides these wars, India had to face ears with her neighbors Chine in 1962 and Pakistan in 1947-48, 1965, 1971 and 1999, so as to flush out Paskistani intruders.
After the sacrifices of numerous men and women, young and old in the freedom struggle spread over many decades, the country got rid of the foreign clutches on 15th August 1947. The cost was great. India got divided into India and Pakistan on 15th August 1947. The division resulted in colossal migration from Pakistani areas of the northwest of India and vice-versa. Many lakhs of human lives were lost in the fury of killings at the hands of fanatics and as a result of retaliation and in transit. Properties, both movable and immovable, worth cores of rupees also got destroyed. A gruesome period when human lives were treated as being of less value than insects and animals. All those affected by the process of transfer of power had to start their lives afresh.
Bur economically our country made good progress and a number of industries, heavy and small-scale, came into being and provided opportunities for employment to people. Our country became self-sufficient in food and many other items of day to day use.
No doubt, per capita income has gone up but due to inequitable distribution of wealth, the rich got richer and a number of neo rich came on the horizon. The standard of living of the masses did not improve much, rather, on account of the high cost of living, their plight has worsened. At present, the number below the poverty line has gone up. Something very tangible will have to be done before it becomes too late.
What an irony that a few chosen ones have very commodious houses, in many vases more than one, and sprawling farms of many acres, with all the paraphernalia of comfort and luxury, while all the paraphernalia of comfort and luxury, while the masses, running into many crores, do not have even the smallest dwelling of 10 to 15 sq. yard. As a result, the whole country has become a mosaic of slums, with people defecating all around. Again, in this regards, something very drastic will have to be done and that too at a supersonic speed. Otherwise, the situation will becomes even more grim.
Socially we have chosen to divide ourselves on the basis on the caste system, each trying to grab a slice of the cake. In a free India , ideally we should have worked for the betterment of the country, keeping aside our personal aspirations.
After achieving independence, the government has been trying to give the best education at the university/ IIT Levl at the lowest equipped with the required technical knowledge, so as to meet the demands of scientific and industrial research. Unfortunately, due to the lack of avenues for the utilization of their services, these youth have migrated to other counties. They have no doubt made their name by virtue of their knowledge and hard work, but our own country has been deprived of their skills. The government of the day shall have to five serious consideration as to how best the service conditions can be improved in order to lure back those who have left this country; and put a stop to their migration.
Morally we have stopped so low that India finds a place in the list of corrupt countries of the world. In ancient times India was a nation pound of its rich heritage, moral uprightness and spiritual greatness. There was some element of corruption before independence but the fear of our masters kept s at bay, and most of us were greater need for it. It seems that after achieving independence, we though that we wee3 all free to behave and do as we liked since we were all free to behave and do as we liked since we were our own masters. Matters appear to have become so bad that in public dealing nothing works unless means are devised to get them done.
Life in government’s service used to be very hard and one had to work sincerely. Now it is the other way. Most people now as price to land in government jobs at any cost as they are very lucrative and the work input is minimal. This does not apply to all government jobs and employees. The chances of corruption are bright where the administration is loose and unconcerned about what is happening in the office. Fog knows how and when it will end.
Accountability is the main remedy, and every employee/office should be made accountable for lapses/inefficient and delays. The situation has become so ugly and desperate that very often the older people can be heard saying they were better off before independent. What a sorry states of affairs!
People at large need to be motivated about their objective and made aware of their obligation towards others. I wish that this is done at the earliest so that further damage to the country can be stemmed.
In spite of these failings I love my country because of its great spiritual traditions. The present situation is but a passing phase in its long and illustrious history. The day is not far when the people at the helm of affairs will finally take charge of the destiny of this nation and restore if to greatness.
Each one of us has to do our bit and extend full cooperation in overcoming the problems being faced by the people. For achieving better results the government will need to associate the people. For achieving better results the government will need to associate the people. For achieving better results the Government Will need to associate the people, especially those who have a flair for social work. In projects convening people. This will help in getting the twin objects of making people interested in the projects and utilizing them as watch dogs of society.
