4. Patyayini Dasha

1. This is pure Tajika dasha and differs basically from the other dashas mentioned earlier. The Vimshotri Mudda and yogini dasha are based on Moon’s Nakshtra, where as this dasha depends on longitudes of planets in a chart. The seven planets from Sun to Saturn and lagna participate in this system, but they do not follow a fixed pattern/ order. There order of operation depends on their longitudes, which will be different in different charts. This dasha system does not recognize Rahu & Ketu, while it includes dasha of lagna. Therefore it is important to determine the strength of lagna as well as its lord.

2. Krishamshas: The longitudes of the seven planets and rising degree of lagna at Varshpravesh/ Prashna is noted down in degree, minutes (and seconds if needed). These degrees and minutes (and seconds if needed). These degrees and minutes of various planets and lagna are tabulated in ascending order and are called Krishamshas. In case degrees and minutes happen to be identical, the help of seconds is taken to decide the ascending position. The ascending order of the Krishamshas decides the order of operational periods in the Patyayini dashas system. In the example chart 14, the Krishamshas are tabulated in ascending order as under:

3. Patyamshas: As a first step, the minute component of the degrees of planets are converted into decimal. For example, Sun’s degrees will become 3.83 and Mars 7.7 and so on. The dasha lord with the minimum Krishamshahas the same Patyamsha. Thus in the above example, Sun’s Patyamsha will be 3.83 only.

To find out the Payamsha of next planet/ dasha lord Mars, in the dasha order, deduct the Krishamsha of the preceding planet (Sun) from the Krishamsha of the planet concerned (Mars). Thus the Patyamsha value of the Mars in the example chart 12 will be 7.7- 3.83= 3.87.

The next dasha in order will be of Ascendant, whose Patyamsha will be determined by deducting Mars’ Krishamsha from those of the ascendant i.e. 9.43- 7.7 = 1.73. Thus by successive deducting Krishamsha of one dasha lord from those of the next higher in order, we get the Patyamsha of all the eight dasha lords. When the Patyamshas of all the eight dasha lords are totaled, it is equal to the Krishamsha of the last dasha lord or the dasha lord with the highest Krishamshavalue.

4. Calculating Duration of the Dashas: The highest value of Krishamsha is equivalent to one year (365 days). The patyamshas represents the proportional period of time i.e. the Patyayini dasha for various dasha lords. The Patyayini dasha of any lord is determined by the formula:

Payamsha of the dasha lord x 365 / Highest value of Krishamsha.

Thus Patyayini dasha of Sun in the example chart 12 will be:

3.83 x 365 / 21.75 = 64.27 days

In the example chart, Patyayini dasha of various lords will be:

5. Calculation of Sub-Periods/ Antar-dashas:

Finer and more accurate timings, it is desirable to calculate sub-periods with in each maor Dasha (MD). The formula for calculating sub-periods (or AD) within a major period is:

(Dasha duration of MD lord X Dasha duration of AD lord)/ 365 days.

For example, in example chart 12, the AD of various lords within MD of Sun (64.29 days) rounded off to nearest hour will be as under:

Ad of Sun = (64.29 X 64.29) / 365 = 11d. 8h.
AD of Mars = (64.29 X 64.93) / 365 = 11d. 10h.
AD of Lagna = (64.29 X 29.03) / 365 = 5d. 2h.
AD of Jupiter = (64.29 X 3.36) / 365 = 0d. 14h.
AD of Moon = (64.29 X 0.52) / 365 = 0d. 2h.
AD of Saturn (64.29 X 126.69) / 365 = 22d. 8h.
AD of Mercury (64.29 X 18.8) / 365 = 3d. 7h.
AD of Venus = (64.29 X 57.38) / 365 = 10d. 2h.
