Role of Vedic Astrology and Tajika

5. The Vedic astrology has three systems of delineation and prediction-Parashari, Jaimini and Tajika. The first two deals primarily with natal (Jataka) astrology, whereas Tajika deals mainly with matters of more immediate concern through annual horoscopy (Varshfal) and/or horary (Prashna). Most of the terms in Tajika have their origin in Persian/Arabic, indicating its origin in Arabia or Central Asia. In Arabia, the word “Taj” means crown and “Tajak” means horse. It is, therefore, said that among various systems, this system runs like a horse or it is superior to others like a crown. Tajika seems to have gained its importance in medieval period, when Muslim invaders made use of it for military exploits, many of them with glory, barbarian yet so spectacular as to become historic deeds of change with cruelty. However it does not mean that Vedic astrologers of the period, like Keshava, Samara Simha and Neelkantha were not aware of this system and had written useful treatise on Tajika. In olden days, free exchange of goods, service and knowledge as part of mercantile was not uncommon. The old Vedic knowledge as contained in classics was complete in themselves to answer Prashna or yearly predictions as per dasha, Bhukti and Antra system of Parashar.

6. However, the Tajika system differs from old Vedic system in many ways. The first is the concept of a progressed horoscope. The other major difference is the importance given to the Sun in Tajika; whereas the Moon is given more importance in Vedic astrology. The Sun is accepted as the lord of the solar system and also the significator of Soul (Atman) which ingress into our physical body again and again as the Earth completes a revolution around the Sun.

The new year of a native’s life commences from the time and date of sidereal solar return to the position, where Sun was at the time of the birth of the native. Thirdly the manner of evaluating the strength of a planet in the two systems is different. Whereas Vedic astrology strength of a planet is judged by Shadbala/ strength in various divisional charts, Tajiks system follows Panch-Vargiya Bala. Again the manner of a planet influencing the other planet in the two systems is different. Tajika also lays an extra importance to the integration of Signs. Lastly it has introduced some new concepts like Sahams & Tripataki Chakras. Rajika system has its own Yogas and dasha system to pinpoint the time various events. We will discuss all these in details in subsequent chapters.

7. During early medieval period, India was divided into large number of small states, who were rarely on good friendly terms. The fights, victory, defeat etc among their kings was very common. The kings’ courts had a regular Raj Jyotishi solely devoted to the problems and astrological guidance for the kings. This concentrated effort paved the way for excellence by astrologers under royal patronage. Some of the queries/problems/predictions of the medieval periods have become out-dated today and some of the new types of problems have cropped up now. But the old underlined principles can be suitably modified to get the desired solutions even today.

8. The Tajika astrology is a unique theory of astrological predictions with logical solution in a short time. It takes care of all those areas that are covered by the natal Astrology, like education, marriage, children, rise & fall in career, profession & financial matters, health, disease, conflicts, imprisonment, death etc. The Tajika is thus complementary, supplementary, and confirmatory in nature. However where natal chart is not available, a horary/ Varshphal can be evaluated for prediction independently with great accuracy.
