Chapter 4

The Grand Path of Mars
Everything written in the Grand Path of the Sun should be kept in mind while looking at the Grand Path of Mars in a person’s horoscope.
In Mriga, Chitra and Dhanishtha stars the Grand Path of Mars is from birth to age seven. If Mars is in the ascendant, House of Wealth, Fifth House, Sixth House, Eighth House or in the House of Expenditure in such a horoscope, the person has many ailments throughout childhood. His maternal uncle, aunt or brother die. He can suffer from measles or diarrhea. His mother suffers.
In Rohini, Hasta and Shravana, the Grand path is from age 10 to 17 during which the person can suffer from bone marrow infections and other chronic diseases. He lacks concentration in studies, fails in examinations, his father suffers.
In Krittika, Uttarashaadaa and Uttara the Grand Path is from age 17 to 24 during which the mother or father may die. Even the sister could die. The person has difficulty in studying and his body is covered with boils and eruptions.
In Bharani, Purva and Poorvashaadaa, the Grand Path is from age 33 to 43 during which the person has completed studies and is looking to earn wealth. If he is married his wife dies and he has to marry a second time. These stars are influenced by the Grand Path of Venus at the time of the person’s birth and therefore it has to be taken into account how many of the traits of Venus have manifested till the age of 20. In the 60th meridian of Bharani if the person was born in the 40th meridian of Venus then this planet has its grand Path in his life till age six and hence the Grand Path of Mars in his life is only from 23 to 30. In this situation if the Grand Path of Mars is very auspicious for the person – it is in the Third House, Fifth House, Sixth House, Eleventh House or the House of Expenditure – then the person gets supreme glory. He gets abundant wealth, travels abroad, inherits property, wins in court disputes. There is a chance of a division of property with brothers and of some children dying.
In Ashwini, Magha and Moola stars the Grand Path of Mars is from age 43 to 50 during which the person has to arrange for property and his sons have much trouble. He has to act according to the wishes of his wife and sons.
In Pushya, Anuradha and Uttarabhadrapaada the grand Path is from age 69 to 76 during which the only property of Mars is death.
Regarding the Grand Path of Mars, astrologers say – “Dashaadau sukhamaapnoti dashaante keshta maadishet”. This means the beginning is happy but the end is troublesome. No one has mentioned how it goes in between so one assumes it must be ordinarily all right. One saying goes that in the beginning the person suffers loss of peace and wealth, in the middle and the end he has to fear the government, fire and thieves. Here is an example that makes it clear:
This person was born on 26-9-1884 at 9.27 in the morning at longitudes 19-35:
Due to the hard working nature that Mars brings, this person founded an English High School. The Grand Path of Mars was from 18-2-1930 to 18-2-1967. In the beginning people in the village leveled all kinds of accusations at him and he lost in a court case. He had to leave the school and go away.
To look for a more in depth explanation of the Grand Path of Mars one should refer to texts by Sarvartha Chintamani, Brihat Parashari etc.
