D. The Hindu Cycle of Years

Every rasi in the Zodiac is allotted five years each, which means for every 360 kalas we have got a year. For every 30 kalas we will have a month.

The first year starts in Mesha Rasi and the first year is reckoned as Bramadhi since that was the year in which Kali Yuga had its birth.

The span of life of a Human being is 120 years and we have three sets of such 120 years in the Zodiac indicating the past present and future births.

The total number of years from Mesha to Kataka, Simha to Vrischika, and Dhanus to Meena, each equals 120 years, which is the span of life of a man.

The years of the different rasis are arrived at in the following manner.

For example, let us take Mesha. Mesha consists of Aswini, Bharani and the first quarter of Krithika.

For Aswini we have seen seven years of Ketu Data, for Bharani, twenty years of Sukra Dasa and for one quarter of Krithika, we have 1 ½ (one and half years of Ravi data). The three combined, works out to 28 ½ (Twenty eight and half years).
