Characteristic of Colors in Relation to Planets in Astrology

Dr. Shanker Adawal (Jyotishaacharya, PHD, MBA)

HOME

Colour has strong but subtle vibratory force in the shaping of human behaviour. Right from childhood man responds and reacts to the impact of colour. Bright colours fascinate children. Even primitives and tribal people, having colour appeal deck themselves in gay coloured clothes and beads. Psycho-analysis tries to study behaviour patterns of man sometimes with his bias towards certain colours. This appeal for colour has also been taken advantage by the modern interior decorators.

Astrology, a science to identify the celestial with the mundane things, in cognizance of this fact, had assigned gold for the Sun, silver for the Moon and so on purely on their colour similarities. Various colours have been ascribed to planets thus: Orange or Gold colour to Sun, Red for Mars, Dark Blue for Saturn, Green for Mercury, Yellow for Jupiter and so on.

Though a conclusive assessment of a person's positive and negative qualities can not be made chiefly relying on his likes and dislikes to certain colours, yet its importance in total evaluation cannot be lightly dismissed. Realizing this aspect, the Astrologers had made frequent references to colours in their works. According to them, the wearing of red kumkum on the forehead by our Hindu women, symbolizes Mars who rules blood. A particular gem or stone is also assigned to a planet on the basis of similarity of colour. A person's penchant towards a particular colour can be attributed to strong influences of a planet.

According to Astrology, the `colour-consciousness' of a person can be fairly gauged by the sub-lord of Lagna, the disposition of Lagna lord and planets aspecting Lagna cusp. More than one planet reveals the modifying shades of a colour. To take an example: a Thula lagna native with sub-lord Saturn, lord of lagna posited in Kataka in the star of Saturn, would naturally prefer light blue colours since Venus in Kataka will surely dissolved the strong blue of Saturn. Now a question may arise. Will a person whose natural preference is light blue like that only hue all through life irrespective of change in circumstances and vagaries of taste? Logically the answer is that since the dasa lord is a prime factor during the period of its run, any amendment, alteration or modification in one's choice may be traced to the dasa lord and its constellation lord. This gives a clue as to why a person who has been preferring cream and yellow colours during Jupiter dasa has slowly started liking darker shades with the advent of Saturn dasa.

Now I shall broadly study the characteristic of a few colours with reference to their respective planets:

RED (Mars): A vigorous and forceful colour depicting a man of action, adventure and boldness. More of brawn than brain. On the positive side, red-lovers are upright, bold and face the challenges of life with vigour. On the negative side, it makes them impulsive, vengeful and fool-hardy.

MAROON (Modifying shade of red): Represents strength with stamina. A colour of warmth and cooperative effort. Suffers from moody spells.

PINK (Modifying shade of red): A very popular colour especially for bedrooms, drawing rooms and lounges. Think Pink is a slogan of a Hollywood comedian. Pink shows love and willingness to help others. True pink is a delicate shade and people who respond to its vibration get easily hurt though they recover readily.

GREEN (MERCURY): Adaptable to circumstances. Both sentimental and sympathetic. Fond of companionship and inclined to take life easy. If beset by failure they try to wallow in self-sympathy and put the blame on others.

EMERALD (Modifying shade of Green): This strong green raises adaptability to the status of adventure. Emerald-lovers make the most of the opportunities coming in their way.

OLIVE (Modifying shade of green): A weak colour representing a person who shirks responsibilities and tries to find excuses. Lovers of this hue need lot of cajoling, encouragement and support to goad them into action.

BLUE (SATURN): True to the nature of its ruling planet, this hue indicates moods and sentimentality. On the positive side, blue gives some measure of devotion, a certain self-sufficiency and deep and far reaching thoughts.

NAVY BLUE (Modifying shade of blue): A dark shade of blue depicting faithfulness and constancy of purpose. Reliability trust and strength characterize this shade. (Probably that is why this colour is preferred by the Navy).

SKY BLUE: A lighter shade of blue. Lovers of sky-blue now and then descend to the depth of dejection and then rise up to the heights of cheerfulness. Even in company they some time feel lonely, and worrying over trivial seems to be a hobby with them.

VIOLET (Associated with VENUS): a SOOTHING AND HARMONIOUS COLOUR. Violent admirers often have taste towards literary, artistic and dramatic works. They are imaginative and creative. Turning fantastic into reality is their common objective. They develop a liking for mysticism. They influence others easily. On the negative side, violet-lovers assume a sort of self importance. Being blind to their own faults, they avoid criticism. They like to live in their own world of illusions and often draw self satisfaction out of it.

PURPLE (Modifying shade of Violet): High thinking, sense of superiority, Empty grandeur, are some of the traits of this royal shade.

WHITE (MOON): Often considered a symbol of purity. They are sincere and fair to others and understand others with sympathy. People who are fascinated by the vibrations of this colour often like to live an orderly life (whether they do it or not) and change their ideas to the changing times in order to keep in tune with life. On the negative side they tend to be over critical.

GRAY (Modifying colour of white): A deceptive and uncertain colour indicating persons who appear to be indifferent to circumstances but definitely a calculating and cool opportunist. Gray lovers exhibit caution often resulting in wise moves.

BLACK (RAHU & KETU): Highly formal and conventional Black vibration exhibits great understanding. Devoid of false prestige, it shows dynamism and purposefulness.

ORANGE or GOLD (SUN): Proud and self-esteemed they impress and influence others easily and become a centre of attraction. Ambition of some kind drives them along and neither love nor sentiments can distract them from their purpose. Popularity and success appeal to them very much and they will leave no stone unturned to come to limelight. On the negative side, they sometimes lack warmth and override all opposition with uncanny cunning and genius. Their conceit often narrows their outlook.

YELLOW (JUPITER): Yellow in its full bloom denotes intellectuality. It speaks of a scientific mind that overcomes ignorance. Lovers of yellow shades are often sought after for their practical wisdom and constructive counseling. They inject confidence, encouragement and cheerfulness. Having been endowed with broad vision, they plan everything on a grand scale. They are benevolent and take applause and abuses with equanimity. They also tend to develop religious and philosophical interests as they advance in age.

Having seen a panoramic view of the characteristics of colours in relation to their respective planets, I should like to submit here that an interesting horizon is awaiting fruitful researches in the field of colourology. The day is not far off when just like gem therapy, colour-therapy can be effectively developed to off-set certain mental ills and deficiencies.

Astrology, if suitable researches are made in this direction, can really offer useful suggestion based on planetary colours to infuse courage, cheer and confidence in our fellow being.

Even malefics can do good……

All the Vedic stages have unanimously declared that the houses 6, 8, and 12 counted from lagna or from any Bhava are detrimental to lagna or that Bhava. So 6, 8, or 12 are said to be unlucky houses and indeed evil.

Not only the lords of the houses become adverse, but also the planets posited in these houses are still worse. Occupants are deemed to be stronger than the owners. Therefore the planets occupying 6, 8, and 12 must be worse than the lords of the houses.

When the lords of the houses and also the planets deposited in those houses are considered to be undesirable, then normally one will expect that the lords of these houses and planets occupying the above said houses must be causing untold miseries. But actually in practice it was found that under certain circumstances these planets owing these evil houses and also occupying such houses cause very favourable results, which are unexpected and it is a ‘Vipareeta, to normal expectations. Actually when we enjoy Raja Yoga, it is Vipareeta and so it is termed as ‘Vipareeta Raja Yoga’ 6th house indicates disease, debt, difficulty and dispute; 8th houses denotes distress, difficulty danger, drowning etc., and 12th house shows loss, swindling, secret inimical activity, depression etc. Therefore nobody would like to have any of the matter signified by these three houses.

Kalidas has mentioned in his book ‘Uttar Kalamrita’ – (Kanda 4 Sloka 22) the disposition of planets which cause Vjipareeta Raja Yoga.

“If the lords of the houses 6,8 and 12 occupy either jointly or individually the houses 6, 8 and 12 or if they are in any manner connected with the houses 6 or 8 or 12, then the person’ will be a king and he will command much wealth. He will establish a good name and enjoy his life.”

Loss to the opponent

One may ask ‘How can the lords of houses 6 and 8 in mutual exchange cause vipareeta Raja Yoga?
If lagna represents the person, then the 7th house stands for the opponent. The 6th house is 12th to the 7th, ie. ‘Vraya’ house and the 8th house will be the second the 7th. It is a well known fact that an interchange between the lords of the houses 2 and 12 brings loss of wealth loss of members in the family, loss of eye sight and defective speech etc. Therefore, when the opponents loses, the native gains. That is why the interchange between the lords of 6 and 8 bring about beneficial results as success in competition and litigation winning in elections etc.

Case Study

In my friend’s horoscope, the lords of houses 6 and 8 were in mutual exchange and he had been running the conjoined period of these two planets. My friend did not work hard for a victory in the election. But he had an opponent, who spent most extravagantly. His friends were much benefited monetarily, but they were not true to him. Actually they voted for my friend opponents and my friend had a thumping win. Thus if the lords of 6 and 8 are mutually exchanged due to the secret inimical activity, the opponent will ose and the native will gain.

Vipareeta Raja Yoga is caused by any one of the following planetary disposition:

Lord of the 8th occupying the 12 the or 6th;

Lord of the 6th being placed in the 8th or 12th;

Lord of the 12th being posited in the 8th or 6th;

Lords of 6,8 and 12 being associated win any way by mutual exchange of places mutual aspect or conjunction and these lords are at the same time free from such relation with other planets.

Mutual exchange of natural benefits owning the houses 6 and 8 brings abourt a transaction wherin the native is benefited; whereas he, with whom he transacted, does not gain equally. Vipareeta Raja Yoga is really enjoyed, only when the lords of 6 and 8 happen to be malefics by nature.

Mature exchanges

This rule will not apply to Capricorn lagna borns, as the lord of the 6th is Mercury and the lord of the 8th is Sun. Mercury and Sun can never occupy Gemini and Leo, causing mutual exchange i.e, Parivartana Yoga. Mutual exchange between the star-lords of the 6th lord and the 8th lord also cause Parivartana yoga. Even in such Yogas natural benefits mutually exchanged beween the houses 6 and 8 are not as harmful to the opponent as natural malefics 2 owning the houses 6 and 8 interchange. No doubt benefits in 6,7 and 8 cause Lagnadhiyoga to the native and mutual exchange of natural benefics owning the houses 6 and 8 brings about a transaction wherein the native is benefited; whereas he. With whom he transacted, does not gain equally.

Period of the lords of 6 and 8:

Supposing a person purchases a property during Jupiter Dasa, Venus Bhukti (lords 6 and 8 for vrishaba Lgnas) ; then this person purchases it at a cost lower than the market rate; whereas the seller loses to some extent. Anyhow he is capable of disposing evin an unsalayle property during that period. Also it may be noticed in a few business men’s charts that the husband transfers certain share and also gives gift to his wife, when the wife runs a period (dasas and bhukti) conjointly ruled by the lords of 6 and 8. It is also likely that those who run the joint period of the lords of 6 and 8, borrow money without any proper record and the person who lent the money suddenly passes away therby the native who runs the period of lord 6 and 8 is not honest temporarily and he appropriates the amont.

Exchange of Natural Benefics.

The mutual exchange between the lord of 12 with either the lord of 8 or 6 will be advantageous to the mnative, only when they happen to be natural malefics. Mutual exchange between natural benefics cannot do harm to the opponent and also much good to the native. Because , if the 6th lord is a benefic and if it occupies the second house or if the 3rd lord occupies the 6th house, the natives financial position will improve by borrowing or service. Therefore , benefics owning the houses 8 and 12 indicate that they own the houses 2 and 6 to the opponent. Therefore benefics cannot bring either loss or throw any obstacles to the opponent . hence the native cannot gain much.

This Vipareeta Raja Yoga is really enjoyed , only when the lords of 6 and 8 happen to be malefics by nature. Indeed the period may cause an injury to the person and he may suffer from disease, yet monetarily it will do good to him or in any competitive examination or election, he will come out successful. This is purely applicable to those who are born in Mithuna Lagna and Vrischika Lagna.
Mutual exchange between the lords of 6 and 12 will be advantageous to younger brother mother and father. Interchange between the lords of 8 and 12 will be advantageous to younger brother, mother and father. Interchange between the lords of 8 and 12 will be advantageous to mother, wife and elder brother. Interchange between lords of 6 and 8 will be advantageous to children.

Notes: 1. Natural Benefics: Jupiter, Venus, Waxing Moon, Unafflicated Mercury.
2. Natural Malefics: Saturn, Mars, Sun, Waning Moon, Afflicted Mercury, Rahu, Ketu.

Are you fortunate?

A well-formed fate line , without breaks or cross, is much desired for a fortunate life. Similarly, the 9th house of fortune, the planet posited therein and 9th lord keep a control

Fate line and fortune

Without the fate line in human hands, nobody can get easy success in any matter in life. While explaining about the fate line, the palmists pointed out that the clear line should reach up to any mount i.e Jupiter, Saturn, Sun or Mercury mount, without any break or cross etc. so that the person can get positive result in this respect. Palmists like Benham & Cheiro where of the view that breakage of fate line which is vertically drawn may not be able to give successful result, whereas it may delay or harass the native during the period, when this breakage or cross will be prominent. Most of astrolgers and palmists think that only one fate line is sufficient to build a successful and smooth career, whereas maximum or many fate lines create trouble or change the human fate off and on, by which the native may face multifarious difficulties during their youth. There will be no difficulty to get reputation or public honour, if the clear and straight fate line proceeds towards the mount of Apollo or Sun. Financial stability will be sound as and when the fate line will reach the mount of Jupiter. Luck may be favourable, for those with clear fate line reaching the well-formed mount of Saturn. New Venture in business will be successful for those with the fate line running upto the mount of mercury.

Also find out wherefrom the fate line is rising i.e from base of the mount of Luna or Moon. Native will get successful result by dint of his own caliber, if the fate line comes from the base. Others will facilitate the native to build the career, if the fate line rises from the mount of Luna or Moon.

Ninth house and fortune

In a rasi chart, the ninth house from the birth sign or Lagna (Ascendant) is the indicator of fate. The native will be lucky, if the Bhagyabhava-Karka(Jupiter or Venus) is well posited in the 9th house. If the lord of the 9th house is located in Trine(5,9) or in Quadrant(1,4,7 or 10) with sufficient strength, then there will be no doubt about his luck. A school of astrologers pointed out that Venus or Jupiter’s location in the 5th house indicates bright future. For example, a native born in Scorpio Lagna may be lucky, if the lord of the 9th , Moon, is posited in Pisces(fifth house) and the lord of the fifth (Jupiter) is placed in exaltation in the 9th house in cancer. This is called parivartana yoga or exchange of houses between two planets. In some notable scripts, it is said to be Jeeva Yoga. Rabindra Nath Tagore, and eminent poet from Bengal, had Jeeva yoga or Parivartana yoga in his natal chart. He was born in Pisces Sign and ascendant, along with moon in the lagna and Jupiter in exaltation in cancer in the fifth house. He won the nobal prize in literature.

If the 9th lord is posited in a dusthana(6,8 or 12), then the fruitful results will be blocked. Another fround may be noted for bad luck or ill fate, if kalasarpa yoga is found in the Rasi Chart of the native. Kalasarpa yoga is nothing but blockage of the effects of other major seven planets in one side of Rahu and Ketu in the Zodiac. Devaguru Brihaspati or Jupiter is the chief governor of luck. Bhagya Karta or lord of fate is Venus. For Aries Lagna and Cancer Lagna, good placement of Jupiter(th 9th Lord) will ensure good luck in life, sometimes due to the aspect of benefic planets in the house 9 or 3, malefic effects of unfavourable planets will be diminished instaneously. The major, sub or sub-sub periods of the 9th lord also bring luck. Favourable transits of the 9th lord also adds to the prospects.

Effects of various planets occupying the 9th house:

Sun - Public honour, inheritance of paternal property.

Venus - Luck through woment, comforts.

Moon – favoured by women folk, interests in luxury items.

Mercury - Success in business.

Mars - Martial capacity.

Rahu – Help from foreign lands.

Saturn(weak) - Obstacles.
